Meet The Boyd Family - One of America's "Finest" Farmers!
Farmers are the heart and soul of our county. Without there unending devotion to providing food for our families we would be without. Growing up in Texas, I have always been surrounded by farms of many kinds and know the hard work that is put into each and every farm. These farmers are making a huge impact everyday and must be acknowledged for how completely awesome they are. It is easy to overlook where our milk, corn, bread, and even the cotton that made our clothing came from. For farmers like the Boyd family, they are reminded everyday.
Will and Ben Boyd farm with their father, Olin, in Sylvania, GA. Although they live in a small rural community, the Boyds have more than enough on their plate to keep them busy. The Boyds farm everything from cotton and peanuts to vegetables, as well as raise cattle. Not only are they involved on the farm, but also off the farm. Will Boyd is the County Commissioner and Ben Boyd is on the Georgia Farm Bureau State Board, Past American Farm Bureau Federation Young Farmers and Ranchers Committee, a past member of the American Farm Bureau Federation Board of Directors and the National Cotton Board. That’s part of the reason this Georgia farm family has been interviewed in countless news stories.
The Boyds are a true family farming operation, and it’s nothing out of the ordinary to see three generations on the land. Will and Wendy Boyd have four children – Wilson, Weston, Waylon and Wenslie -- all of who aren’t afraid to get their boots dirty. The Boyd family says farming isn’t what they do, it’s what they are. While walking through fields that have been in the family for five generations, it’s easy to see the Boyd brothers have a vested interest in the industry, partially because their whole life is in agriculture. But more than that, they have the desire to not only continue farming themselves, but continue to make wise decisions so their kids can farm one day, as well.
Next time you go to the store think about how that item came to be. It probably started with a farming family like the Boyds working hard to provide only the best for you and your family. Farmers are the backbone of our country and without them, we would be nothing.
